Uber Goes Green With Electric Car Option For Passengers In London



Uber users in central London can now request an all-electric vehicle instead of a regular ICE or hybrid vehicle, the company announced on Monday.

Called Uber Green, the new initiative allows customers booking within Zone 1 to book a 100% electric vehicle. Uber says this will help to improve air quality in London, as well as “encourage riders to take action on climate change”.

Passenger fares will match those made in petrol, diesel and hybrid Uber vehicles and drivers will receive a higher fare per trip.

"With cities beginning to open up once again, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to drive a green recovery by ensuring that every car on the Uber app in London is fully electric,” said Jamie Heywood, Uber's regional general manager for Northern and Eastern Europe.
